The rapid-fire battles in Hyper Roll hearken to a tactic used in traditional Teamfight Tactics matches to rapidly reroll the champion pool to boost the player’s roster of characters. This is, however, not without its risks as an all-or-nothing stratagem- something the new experimental game mode seeks to emulate with its speedier, higher-stakes rounds. Hyper Roll is a temporary game mode, likely to stick around for at least a full Teamfight Tactics season.

The current Lab period will essentially act as a beta phase for Hyper Roll, which could come back as a permanent addition to Teamfight Tactics if received well. Fans of Teamfight Tactics’ parent game League of Legends will know similar seasonal playlists like Nexus Blitz, which similarly shake up the game for a limited time.

Teamfight Tactics is part of Riot Games’ ever-growing stable of titles, and support for the title is only growing. The new set, Reckoning, is being seen off by an international tournament for the Fates set, with another all but guaranteed to come around when it’s time for Reckoning to bow out, as the last hurrah for the new meta which sees a new set of darker-themed champions wielding shadowy relics.

The new “Evil” items, alongside the infamous villain Teemo, add a give and take balance to player’s compositions that let players gamble with downsides to reap rewards. The new Reckoning set, alongside the Lab Hyper Roll, look primed to add a whole load of aggression and speed to the auto-battler’s newest paradigm.

Teamfight Tactics is out now for Android, iOS, and PC.
