Selanne lost several teeth and need 40 stitches after an unintentional high stick from Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn, the team said on Wednesday.

The injury means that Selanne will miss his final games at Boston's TD Garden, Buffalo's First Niagara Center and Madison Square Garden. If he takes longer than two weeks, he could miss trips to South Florida (Nov. 12), Tampa (Nov. 14) and Raleigh (Nov. 15).

A positive, if unsurprising bit of Selanne news from the CBC's Elliotte Friedman: He'll be the first Duck to have his number retired, whenever that happens. Maybe Paul Kariya can go the following day.

Until the stick incident, Selanne's season has been trending more positively than his 2013; he has three goals and four assists in seven games.
